Wool, silk and animal protein fibres
Protein fibres need careful heat, moisture and chemical control.
Wool is warm, resilient and sensitive to heat, agitation and alkaline products. Felting, shrinkage and distortion are common risks when handled incorrectly.
Silk can be strong but is vulnerable to perspiration, light damage, colour loss, water marking, abrasion and poor finishing. Many silk garments require cautious testing.
Cashmere, mohair, alpaca and other animal fibres require gentle handling and careful finishing to avoid distortion, shine and fibre damage.
Workplace checklist
- Avoid unnecessary agitation
- Control heat and moisture
- Test colour where safe
- Avoid strong alkalinity
- Finish with low pressure and shape control
